Navi Mumbai to Auction Seized Properties for Pending Tax Recovery

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced that it will soon auction confiscated properties of property owners with unpaid tax dues. This move comes as a final step for recovering outstanding property taxes. The civic body has started recruiting government-registered valuers to assess the seized properties ahead of the auction.

NMMC officials indicated that property tax bills are generated in accordance with Rule 39 of Schedule ‘D' Chapter 8 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act. Properties with unpaid taxes, within the specified timeframe, face confiscation under Section 128 of the Act, and these properties are then eligible for auction.

To aid in the tax recovery process, NMMC has issued advertisements for qualified government valuers, receiving applications from 10 interested professionals. NMMC commissioner Kailas Shinde stated that the selection process for the valuers is underway, and the appointed valuers will evaluate the properties before the auction commences.

In addition, the civic body has urged property owners to clear their dues by March 31 to take advantage of a 50% penalty reduction under the ongoing amnesty scheme. If the outstanding taxes are not paid, the auction process will proceed.

The auction aims to recover tax arrears and clear the backlog of unpaid dues, providing property owners with a final opportunity to settle their outstanding amounts before their properties are auctioned.
